A characteristic feature of German universities in the last decade is a special emphasis on practice, whether it is student project work or university internships in German companies.

Advantages of German universities
Prestige and quality of education. German universities occupy high places in international rankings: 30 German universities included in the top 500 best universities in the world.
Free education. Studying at state German universities is free of charge. The exception for foreign students is the universities of Baden-Württemberg. There, the tuition fee per semester is 1,637 USD. In other regions of Germany, students are charged only an administrative fee, which covers the costs of transportation, membership in student communities, library subscription. Therefore, students have the opportunity to get a quality education for little money, which is appreciated not only in Europe, but also abroad.

English-language master's degree programs. To enroll in a master's degree in Germany, it is not necessary to know German at all. Most programs are offered in English.
Architectural monuments. Many German universities were built in the Middle Ages. For example, one of the buildings of the University of Tübingen, Hohentübingen Castle, is the main attraction of the city. As historians suggest, it was built in the XI century. Classes are still held in these ancient buildings.
Types of educational institutions in Germany
There are two types of educational institutions in Germany: colleges engaged in vocational education (Berufsakademien and Fachschulen) and universities.

The second group is collective, it includes not only universities (Universitäten), but also equivalent educational institutions (gleichgestellte Hochschulen).

How to enter German Universities
To enter German universities, applicants must study for a year at Studienkollegs — special preparatory educational institutions for students from countries where school education lasts less than 12 years. There are two types of such institutions: Universitätskollegs prepare for admission to any higher educational institution, Fachhochschulkollegs - only for admission to universities of applied sciences.
In order to pass the final exam, it is not necessary to study at the Studienkolleg — students may well prepare on their own (externe Feststellungsprüfung). The test can be taken both in Germany and remotely at one of the Goethe Institutes or DAAD centers.

TestAS is an exam to test the abilities of international students. The test can be taken in German or English. TestAS consists of two parts: general and specialized, which depends on the direction of study.

An applicant who has passed the TestAS will receive an additional 2 points upon admission, regardless of the exam result. If the test score is good, 10 additional points are awarded. However, the admissions committee makes the final decision. Whether the university accepts TestAS results, you can find out on the university's website or at the admissions committee.
